次の英文は、アキ(Aki)が、塩(salt)について英語で行ったスピーチの一部です。

　We use salt for cooking. We use it at the table when we eat food. We use it to preserve food. I usually buy salt at supermarkets. I use salt almost every day, but I didn't know much about it. So I studied about salt.
　Salt is also used for many other things. Some parts of a phone, a computer and a TV are made with plastic. Salt is often used to make it. In some places, salt is used on the street in winter. It melts snow and ice on the street. So people can walk, or use a car, even in winter.
Salt has been important to our languages. "Salad" is a word from "sal" which means "salt." A long time ago, the Romans ate vegetables with salt. Later, people called them salad. Then the word salad became popular in the world. The word "salary" was also a word from "sal." Salt was very precious,so the Romans were often given salt after work. After that, the money people got aftertheir work was called salary.
We can enjoy our lives and cultures with salt. So, I think salt is very important to us.
